Since 1999, our mission has been to offer homeowners unique lighting designs once found only in custom homes. By acting as liaison between builder, electrical contractor, product supplier and buyer, we work hard to ensure each home’s electrical plan is designed to meet individual homeowner needs — now and in the future.
After perfecting our service over the last 20 years, we are proud to add Luminosity to our program offerings. With this virtual design tool, luxury lighting design is now accessible to the production home builder market. But how did this all begin?
Electrical Roadblock
We noticed two large issues while working in the electrical industry. One, a lack of adequate documentation during the electrical wiring process. Two, new lighting and electrical products were being created but few made it into builder showrooms and even fewer made it into new homes.
Why the discrepancy? Lack of knowledge on how to showcase these designs to prospective home buyers and how to get them installed without prolonging cycle times. The electrical field is complex and full of residential lighting codes which must be strictly adhered to for safety and functionality. Between focusing on the technicalities and attempting to coordinate all customer choices, there was no time for the actual lighting design.
The Process
That’s where Aterra Designs came in. We wanted to create customized lighting solutions which adhered to all regulations while maintaining a great interior design focus. Our designers are all Certified Lighting Consultants of the American Lighting Association and experts in lighting, electrical, and home automation.
Most salespeople focus on products, but we focus on unique designs. We handle all option sales for the category and in turn provide the contractor and home builder with the necessary documentation to perform efficient and error-free work.
Paving New Grounds
Lighting and home technology products are constantly improving. In line with this continuous evolution, we are proud to be rolling out a new service to cater to an even wider range of home owners. With our new Luminosity program, we are now fully aligned with production home builders and able to offer our design services online.
Our bread and butter will continue to be our Aterra Premium model for homes $500k+, while Luminosity offers the same luxury lighting designs for homes valued $200k-$400k. When it comes to creating interior and exterior lighting plans, there is every reason to enlist the services of a lighting designer who will coordinate wiring for a home’s overall needs and future possibilities.
